If you aren't familiar with soccer this might be hard to explain but there is a tournament where every team in the country can participate. In England, it's called the FA Cup and this year a semi-pro team advanced far enough to play one of the top teams in the country.
That's the backstory as Sutton United (featuring backup goalkeeper, 42 year old Wayne Shaw) hosted Arsenal. Sutton was given no chance to win...and they didn't, losing 2-0 to Arsenal.
That wasn't the big story. The big story was Shaw having dinner (in the form of two sandwiches) during the 1st half, drinking at the bar with Sutton supporters at halftime, and eating a pie for dessert during the second half.
Apparently, he had heard that people were putting bets on whether he'd eat a pie in the second half, so he did. And that's where he got into trouble. An investigation began to see whether what Shaw did was unethical. To save embarrassment to his club, Shaw resigned his position as backup GK.
He'll always have this moment in the sun though.
