Next Friday, Tom Morello's album The Atlas Underground is coming out. It's full of collaborations, including songs with Marcus Mumford, RZA, Big Boi, Killer Mike, K. Flay and a bunch of his other musical friends.
We got another track from the album today, "Every Step That I Take". This is a joint effort with Portugal. The Man and Whethan, and the song was written by Tom Morello and Matt Schultz from Cage The Elephant.
The really cool thing about this song is that it brings awareness to mental health issues and honors Chris Cornell. Tom spoke to the Chicago Tribune about it (and you can read his full interview here):
"For the song “Every Step That I Take” with Portugal. The Man and Whethan, a teenage EDM marvel, we’re partnering with an organization called SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education), focusing on suicide prevention, information and depression awareness. With the passing of Chris (Cornell of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave) over a year ago, and the momentum towards removing the stigma from mental health issues and suicidal thoughts, it was very important to have a song from that point of view."
