Backstage at Music Midtown, I was able to sit down with Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and Andy Hurley who are just finishing up their Mania tour in October.
Music isn’t all that was on their minds. Fortnight and football are two topics we had to discuss – turns out Andy isn’t the only one in the group watching the games. Everyone is watching because of the fantasy league they are all in. We also chatted about what they could do to top their headlining show at Wrigley Field. "How can we top it in Chicago?” asks Pete, “we always think about what is next, soldier field, I don’t know. Pete continues saying, “Wrigley Field is a special one because.. It really is a magical place with a real history to it and like those of us who grew up there.. Like my dad went to the first Knight game and it’s just a really cool place to be…. I don’t know how you top that.” But of course, they’ll top it because they’re Fall Out Boy and it’s inevitable that they will be able to take it to the next level. Then I asked Andy about being the owner of a coffee shop… If I go to Portland will Andy be my barista?! “I’m not much of a barista,” says Andy about owning the shop. If we do see him there he insists that it won’t be serving the coffee, “I’ll be back there just eating the food and ordering people around.”
What’s next for the group? Pete claims they will be retiring Mania and moving onto the next chapter in their music. I can’t wait to see what’s next for these guys.
