A Florida man is behind bars after he stole an alligator from a miniature golf course and attempted to throw it onto the roof of a cocktail lounge, police say.
Homestead resident William Hodge, 32, is facing charges of possession and injury of an alligator, unarmed burglary of an occupied dwelling, theft and criminal mischief, court documents reveal. They come one day after police spotted Hodge stomp on the stolen gator, swing it into the side of the beachside bar by its tail and then attempting to throw it onto the roof of the building.
When asked why he assaulted the large reptile, Hodge told arresting officers he was "teaching it a lesson," police say. He did not elaborate.
