New York Attempts to Muffle Noise from Young People's Cars

New York lawmakers are trying to put a muffler on loud vehicles so residents can get some sleep.

The appropriately-named “SLEEP Act” seeks to ban muffler and exhaust modifications that give vehicles that “muscle car” sound. It also requires the noise emitted from motorcycles to register below 95 decibels, which is about three times as loud as a lawn mower. If the legislation is approved, offenders will face fines of $1,000 for each violation, per the bill.

The SLEEP Act, which stands for “Stop Loud and Excessive Exhaust Pollution,” is currently being reviewed by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Why do young people like things to be so loud? What's the most impressive vehicle you've owned?
