A birthday celebration at a Tennessee restaurant came to an abrupt end on Saturday when a deck collapsed, sending 11 people to the hospital, authorities say.
More than 40 people were standing on the deck at Zoi's Restaurant in Hamilton County when the deck's support beams gave way, sending everyone crashing to the ground amid pieces of broken wood, according to the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Two of the injured people are listed in critical condition, while the remaining nine suffered "non-life threatening injuries," the Soddy-Daisy Fire Department reveals.
The matter has been turned over to the Hamilton County Building Codes Department to determine the exact cause of the collapse, the Office of Emergency Management reports.
