Bad news for people who have been shedding weight so they might be able to fit into a pair of trendy skinny jeans: The tight-fitting pants style is no longer in vogue.
That's the word from Levi Strauss CEO Chip Bergh, who says consumers have returned to wearing more comfortable, loose-fitting jeans that bring to mind the dominant fashion trend in the late 1980s and early 1990s. “This is not the first time we’ve seen this resonating with consumers,” Bergh says. "Cycles do come and go. And I think the pandemic definitely played a contributing role to consumers looking for a more comfortable, more relaxing denim.”
Referred to as "mom jeans," the style ranks number three on Piper Sandler's biannual "Taking Stock with Teens" survey. Leggings appear on the list at number one, followed by baggy pants at number two.
