A Bronx man is behind bars after he sucker punched a New York cop in what appears to have been a random attack, police say.
The officer was standing outside the 40th Precinct in the Bronx when a man -- later identified as 34-year-old Joe Clarence -- breached the precinct's security barrier and struck the officer in the face. Another officer intervened and arrested Clarence, according to an incident report.
Chief Terence Monahan, who says crack cocaine was found in Clarence's pocket, calls the incident an example of the "unpredictable and dangerous work" officers face every day. The officer suffered a bruise on his face but is expected to recover, the chief says.
Does someone have to be a little unhinged to punch someone who's wearing a gun? Would this have happened before last year's incidents involving police?
