Getting vaccinated against the coronavirus could turn into an annual event, according to one Johnson and Johnson official.
CEO Alex Gorsky, who’s waiting for FDA approval on Johnson and Johnson’s new single-dose vaccine, says the virus’ ability to mutate will likely mandate a new type of vaccine every year.
“Unfortunately, as it spreads, it can also mutate,” Gorsky says. “Every time it mutates, it’s almost like another click of the dial, so to speak, where we can see another variant, another mutation that can have an impact on its ability to fend off antibodies.”
