After the residents of Clarksville, Tennessee spent the day Thursday in full clown lockdown, police have determined a creepy circus entertainer suspected of targeting children was just a harmless resident.
The city was placed on alert at 7:15 a.m. after a resident reported seeing someone in clown makeup driving near a school. Things went from bad to worse 15 minutes later, when another caller said the clown was trying to lure children into his vehicle. When the reports began coming from the children themselves, parents started freaking out, flooding the police station with calls. A full-fledged search was launched in an attempt to locate the costumed creep before school let out.
When the search proved to be successful, officers discovered the clown was "an older man who dresses up as a clown once a year on his birthday," the Clarksville PD says. "People familiar with the man say he is a nice man that dresses up and has been known to give out candy."
