Less than one week after the Christchurch mosque attacks that left 50 dead, New Zealand has banned all assault rifles, high-capacity magazines and military-style semi-automatic rifles.
Anyone in New Zealand who owns assault weapons will be given amnesty to turn them over in a "buy-back" program. New Zealand's government hopes to have the ban in place by April 11th.
New Zealand's Prime Minister said that the buy-back program will cost the country around $138 U.S. dollars "but that is the price we must pay to ensure the safety of our communities."
Do you think banning assault weapons will keep communities safer?
