An Iowa man was arrested Monday after assaulting a convenience store clerk with a banana on New Year's Eve.
Police say 26-year-old Rogelia Tapia got into an altercation at a local QuikTrip. When a store clerk got involved, Tapia began throwing items, including a banana, causing about $1,000 worth of damage to the store.
Tapia was arrested and charged with assault and criminal mischief. The Des Moines Police Department later confirmed on their Facebook page "The banana assault really happened", saying it was one of 270 New Year's Eve calls they investigated.
