An employee in Japan has been fined a half day's pay by his company for repeatedly taking lunch three minutes too early.
The 64-year-old man had done this 26 times over seven months when the company got wind and decided to issue a reprimand.
Officials at the waterworks bureau where the man works gave a televised press conference apologizing for the employee's behavior, which led to ridicule on Twitter for them taking such an extreme stance.
Gen Oka, who is the general affairs officer at the waterworks bureau, realized that their actions may have been a bit over the top, telling CNN, "We must think again what's the appropriate measures to take."
