The murder trial of a Tennessee college football player who fatally shot his cheerleader ex-girlfriend is happening this week and police say the suspect gave them a reason why he did it.
William Riley Gaul told Knox County Sheriff’s Office detectives that he shot 16-year-old Emma Walker through the wall of her bedroom as she slept.
Detectives say she broke up with him in what he felt was a “cruel” manner. “She told me, ‘You need to stop. You’re crazy. You need a life,’ Gaul told detectives.
Prosecutors allege the killing was premeditated and that he was obsessed with Walker while his defense team argues that Gaul didn’t mean to hit Walker when he fired but was rather hoping to rush to her rescue after the shot was fired.
Did you ever know any teenagers who were devasted after a girlfriend/boyfriend broke up with them? Do you think some teenagers might be incapable of understanding consequences when love is involved? Should he spend the rest of his life in jail?
