Washington D.C. might allow 16-year-olds to vote for president in 2020

Washington D.C. might lower the voting age for local and national elections to 16-years-old.

The legislation was introduced last week by D.C. council member Charles Allen. He said he was inspired by the young people who participated in the March For Our Lives last month.

Sources say 7 of the 13 council members support this measure. That's a majority.

While some cities have changed the voting age to 16 for local elections, they can't do it for national races. Washington D.C. is treated as a state in some situations therefore they can consider this. Supporters are hoping for a public hearing by June and a full vote by the end of the year.

Do you think 16-year-olds should be able to vote - for local races or president?
