A lone school resource officer ended up saving lives today after a 17 year old student opened fire inside a school. Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said it appears the shooting was handled "exactly the way it should have been handled."
The school's sole resource officer, Deputy Blaine Gaskill, responded immediately after hearing the gunshots and engaged the suspect firing one round. The shooter also fired one round and later died from his wound at the hospital.
Hogan said officer Gaskill is a "very capable school resource officer" and is also a SWAT team member.
"This is a tough guy who apparently closed in very quickly and took the right kind of action," Hogan said. "And I think while it's still tragic, he may have saved other people's lives."
Do we need more officers like this at schools in our country? Is there any law being discussed right now that would have prevented a 17 year old from illegally possessing a Glock handgun and shooting people at a school?
