San Francisco will remove a controversial statue, known as Early Days, from the park opposite City Hall.
The statue built in the late 19th century depicts a Native American man at the feet of a Catholic missionary.
A fight to remove the statue has raged on for decades, but has been newly reinvigorated in the wake of last year's protests to remove Confederate monuments.
Kate Patterson, a spokeswoman for the arts commission, says the statue will be moved to storage sometime this year, and a plaque detailing the decision would be put in its place.
