After the Star Wars franchise "ended", Harrison Ford wanted another character that defined him besides Han Solo. He teamed up with Steven Spielberg and he became Indiana Jones.
Back in 1989, the second sequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark was released known as Indiana Jones and the The Last Crusade. Since Temple of Doom, which came out before Last Crusade, was such a huge hit, Spielberg and Ford continued in the franchise which has become one of the most profitable franchises in movie history.
The movie even featured former James Bond actor Sean Connery as Indy's dad!
