The Red Liquid in Your Meat Packaging Is Not What You Think It Is

Well, I certainly am shocked over this.  While certainly not as gross as what the white striping on chicken breast is, the red stuff in your meat packaging is NOT blood.

It is actually a protein called myoglobin, according to BuzzFeed.  The protein is what gives the meat and its juices a red hue, and it's perfectly normal to find in packaging.

So, there you go.  Have fun grilling those meats this Memorial Day Weekend!
