NKF Serving the National Capital Area & Virginia

Who We Are & Our Mission

We are the National Kidney Foundation offices proudly serving Washington DC, Virginia & Southern Maryland.

We are revolutionizing the fight to save lives by eliminating preventable kidney disease, accelerating innovation for the dignity of the patient experience, and dismantling structural inequities in kidney care, dialysis, and transplantation.

Are YOU in the 33%?

1 in 3 adults in the United States are at risk of life-threatening kidney disease. That is over 37 MILLION individuals! Unbelievably, most of these people don't even know they have kidney disease. We want to change that.

If you or a family member have one or more risk factors, go to MinuteForYourKidneys.org today and find out what to do next and how to talk to your doctor.

Some possible risk factors you and your loved ones should be aware of:

  • High Blood Pressure
  • Heart Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Overweight or Obese
  • Family history of kidney disease.

Take the First Step:

The first step to preventing kidney disease is knowing your risk. With one minute to spare, go to minuteforyourkidneys.org and understand your risk for developing kidney disease. When was the last time a minute held so much value?

Drive for Dialysis

When: Anytime!

Looking for a great employee volunteer opportunity for your company/organization? Want to help kidney disease patients and their loved ones while doing so? Look no further than NKF's Drive for Dialysis program, which allows companies the opportunity to have their employees volunteer by helping pack care packages for dialysis patients in their local communities. NKF National Capital Area Golf Classic

Date: Monday, June 5, 2023

Location: The Club at Creighton Farms, Aldie, VA, 20105

Our NKF National Capital Area Golf Classic certainly was "tee-rific"! Thank you to all of the golfers, sponsors, donors, staff and volunteers who helped make this year's event such a success. The field of over 110 golfers enjoyed an incredible day at the renowned "Jack Nicklaus Signature" Club at Creighton Farms in Aldie, VA, all while supporting the mission of the National Kidney Foundation. After they were done on the course, golfers were able to bid on a robust silent auction (including a week-long stay at a Vail, CO vacation home and a chance to throw out the first pitch at a Nationals home game). We are so excited to announce that the support of our players helped us set new tournament day fundraising records, which will allow NKF to continue the great work we are doing in the National Capital Area community.

Special thank you to our presenting sponsor Planet Fitness, as well as our other sponsors Buch Construction, HM Insurance, Tito's Handmade Vodka, Aerobiology Labs, Banner's Hallmark, Beautiful Home Services, and First Home Mortgage. We'd also like to thank Jason Ward and Chick-Fil-A for donating lunches to all our players and to Punch Digital Strategies for their support on digital and print assets.

We are actively working with the Creighton Farms team to secure a date for 2024, so stay tuned!

There is still time to donate, so head to our tournament website to make your tax-deductible donation today.

41st Annual NKF Kidney Ball

Event Date: Friday, March 31, 2023

Oh, what a night! Thank you to everyone who supported and attended the 41st Annual NKF Kidney Ball at the Anthem in Washington DC on Friday, March 31. Chaired by Attain Partners Founder & Chief Executive Officer Greg Baroni and hosted by NBC4 Washington's Doug Kammerer and Jummy Olabanji, the event celebrated NKF's advances in kidney disease awareness, treatment, and prevention. To cap off the evening, attendees danced the night away to the sounds of one of the region's top cover bands: The Reagan Years!

We want to once again congratulate our 2023 NKF honorees, who were recognized at the Kidney Ball. Jummy Olabanji was awarded the Arthur P. Pasquarella Leadership in Action Award for her dedication to the National Kidney Foundation and its mission through her work as a local board member and for utilizing her public platform to raise awareness and further initiatives about kidney disease in our local community. We were also pleased to honor CareDx and Planet Fitness with the NKF Corporate Citizenship Award for going above and beyond in their support of local NKF events and programs and for being steadfast partners in the fight against kidney disease.

There is still time to pledge your support! Visit the Kidney Ball website below and click the "Donate" button to make your tax-deductible contribution today. Finally, we would like to thank all of our event sponsors, including Brown, Brothers & Harriman, Ron & Joy Paul, CareDx, Attain Partners, Elevance Health, Maximus, Horizon Therapeutics, and much, much more.

2023 NKF Congressional Awards Reception

Event Date: Wednesday, March 1, 2023

The NKF Congressional Awards Reception was held in conjunction with the National Kidney Foundation's annual Kidney Patient Summit, where kidney patients and living donors from around the country converged in Washington DC to meet with their state representatives to discuss the issues and policies that impact the lives of kidney patients and their loved ones. At the Congressional Awards Reception, the National Kidney Foundation honored a select few of those elected officials who have served as champions in the fight against kidney disease by using their positions to help further initiatives, bills, and laws that will ultimately benefit individuals battling kidney disease and their loved ones.

This year, we were proud to honor Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith from Mississippi and Congresswoman Gwen Moore from Wisconsin with the NKF Congressional Award. We also were proud to honor Roberta "Bobbie" Reed with the Patient Advocacy Award, given to an individual who has persevered and triumphed to make a difference in the lives of kidney patients in his or her community.
