Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel are engaged! The model revealed the news on Instagram Tuesday night (June 11) by sharing a photo of her black diamond ring on Instagram story. “Marrying The 1975 is very brat @trumanblack,” she wrote. The couple was in New York City celebrating the release of their friend (and Healy's bandmate George Daniel's fiancee) Charli XCX's new album Brat

The 1975 singer's mom Denise Welch confirmed the engagement on her show Loose Women on Wednesday (June 12), gushing over her soon to be daughter-in-law. “I have known for a few weeks that Matty got engaged. They went over to see their friends Charli and George in New York. I woke up this morning to the fact they’ve put it on Instagram. Instagram official, he has got engaged to Gabbriette. Black diamond, he had it made for her and I couldn’t be more thrilled," she said. “She is from Los Angeles, she is absolutely gorgeous...We couldn’t be happier, she is everything that I would want in a daughter in law.”

In addition to modeling, Bechtel also used to front Charli XCX's punk band Nasty Cherry. The group split up during the pandemic.

Healy and Bechtel have reportedly been dating since September 2023, which was just months after the singer's breakup with Taylor Swift. Their relationship was brief; however, fans believe many songs on Swift's latest album The Tortured Poets Department are about Healy.
