Judge Tells 72yo Man w Cancer He 'Should Be Ashamed' for Not Cleaning Lawn

A judge in Michigan is catching some heat after she fined a 72-year-old man for not keeping up with his lawn. The man, Burhan Chowdhury of Hamtramck, Michigan, a suburb or Detroit, explained to the judge that he has been stricken with cancer and that the treatments have made him very weak.

The district judge, Alexis Krot, can be heard saying "you should be ashamed" to the man after he tried to explain the situation to her. He even seems to be having difficulty breathing while telling her what the deal was. "If I could give you jail time on this, I would," she adds.

Burhan's 33-year-old son also speaks to the judge, sitting next to his father. Photos of Chowdhury's property are displayed in the meeting, but the son explains that it has been cleaned up since they were taken.

Krot doesn't seem to care, and issued the man a $100 fine. "Do you see that photo?" she asked. "That is shameful. Shameful. The neighbors should not have to look at that."
