MPD Release Bodycam Footage of Officers Who Crashed Drag Racing Patrol Cars

Warning: Video Contains Strong Language

After two Metropolitan Police Department patrol cars were wrecked after a drag race between on-duty officers in late April, bodycam footage from the incident has been released.

Officials say one of the officers was a probationary officer and has been fired for their involvement. An internal affairs investigation is currently being conducted to determine the next steps and whether or not any charges will be filed against the officers.

"Obviously those types of things are unacceptable, they're embarrassing [and] it's not something we tolerate," acting DC Police Chief Robert Contee said. "And it's something that I don't tolerate as the Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department."

On April 22nd, the two police cruisers raced each other down Anacostia Avenue. As the vehicles turned onto Polk Street, one of the vehicles cut the other off, causing the accident.
