Two DC police officers wrecked and totaled their vehicle while drag racing on duty, a report says.

Two cops for the Metropolitan Police Department engaged in the risky behavior last Thursday at about 5:00 PM on Anacostia Avenue near Kennilworth Avenue, reaching speeds of at least 60 mph according to FOX 5 DC.

Police Commander Durriyyah Habeebullah addressed the incident in an email to department management after the crash:

“Yesterday two 6D scout cars were totaled because officers decided instead of fighting crime, patrolling their beats, or engaging the community – they decided to drag race each other on Anacostia Avenue at 5 pm in the evening.

“What does this say to all the members of MPD who are passionate about their job and work hard every day to make a difference. This is not fair to any of us."

The two drivers were reportedly new to the department. The report did not make mention of the condition of the officers following the crash or any sort of disciplinary action as of yet.
