The iconic Domino Sugars neon sign in Baltimore is coming down on March 1st. The sign has been one of the signature fixtures in the Inner Harbor area since 1951, but its red glow will be absent temporarily.

A $2 million project will replace the 120x70 foot sign with an LED version that should appear to be exactly the same as the original sign, just a more eco-friendly verison.

The Domino Sugars sign is considered a relic of Baltimore's manufacturing heyday and a constant for over 70 years in the city that has seen much change.

The sugar refinery which the sign sits atop is going to celebrate its 100th anniversary next year.
