Woman Angry Over Lack of Breakfast at Hotel Steals Truck, Crashes Into Pond

A Florida woman is facing several charges after a dispute at a Jacksonville hotel lead her to stealing someone's truck and crashing it into a nearby retention pond, say the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The incident occurred briefly before 5:00pm last Thursday at an Extended Stay Deluxe hotel.

According to a police report, 34-year-old Marlo Walton began arguing with a hotel employee over the lack of free breakfast and the closure of the swimming pool, both due to concerns over the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

A male customer of the hotel attempted to assist the hotel employee and reportedly told Walton to calm down. A dispute allegedly took place between the two afterwards and the man claims he was "in fear for his life" and left the hotel lobby.

The man claims he went into the parking lot and got into his truck, but left it and ran off when he saw Walton emerge from the hotel. He then says when he came back to his vehicle, it was gone. The police report says that the truck was found across the street from the hotel, partially submerged in a retention pond and that Walton was responsible.

Walton was arrested and is facing charges for theft of a motor vehicle, criminal mischief, battery, assault and aggravated battery.
