Florida Man on 'Spiritual Journey' Steals Deputy's Cruiser, Credit Card

A 20-year-old man has been arrested after authorities say he stole a deputy's cruiser and credit card Thursday night.

According to police, Duncan Smith stole an Alachua County deputy's cruise from the Gainesville Regional Airport and was seen on surveillance video around 8:34pm leaving the airport in the vehicle.

Roughly two hours later, Smith allegedly used a credit card that was inside the stolen cruiser, which notified the police department in Columbia County, Florida, north of Gainesville.

Deputies eventually found Smith back in Alachua County and placed him under arrest. Smith reportedly confessed to stealing the car because he was on a "spiritual journey" and needed to find a way home.

Smith is being charged with burglary, larceny and vehicular theft.
