A guest on televangelist Jim Bakker's TV show suggests that a product that Bakker sells on his website is able to "deactivate" the Coronavirus.
A naturopathic doctor, Dr. Sherrill Sherman, says a $125 'Silver Solution' that can be purchased on Bakker's website is effective against viruses similar to the Wuhan Coronavirus and suggests it would be effective against that virus too. A naturopathic doctor, in case you are keeping score, "aim to help the body heal through natural substances such as food, herbs, and water," does not need to have attended a medical school, is not licensed to practice medicine, and cannot diagnose or treat illnesses.
In a video clip posted to Twitter, Sherman says, "Well, let's say [Silver Solution] hasn't been tested on this strain of the coronavirus, but it's been tested on other strains of the Coronavirus and has been able to eliminate it within 12 hours. Totally eliminate it. Kills it, deactivates it. And then it boosts your immune system so then you can support the recovery, because when you kill the virus, then the immune system comes into action to clear it out. So you want a vibrant immune system as well as an ability to deactivate these viruses."
On Bakker's website for the product, which sells for anywhere between $40-$300 based on packaging size and bundles, the product claims to "helps speed up natural processes that have positive effects on the body" and "Silver disrupts foreign elements without disturbing the body’s natural environment." The only ingredients listed are deionized water and "purified Silver."
On the bottom of the page is also a warning which states it "contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm."
Bakker previously made headlines in 2016 after he allegedly paid "hush money" to someone to keep quiet over a sexual encounter.
