Massive Fire Engulfs Alexandria Apartment Building, Smoke Visible for Miles

A massive fire broke out this morning in Alexandria in the 2800 block of Poag Street, engulfing an apartment complex under construction and sending a huge plume of smoke into the air which can be seen from miles away.

Route 1, Richmond Highway, was shut down as the flames enveloped the building complex and began to threaten nearby occupied residences.

People from as far away as reportedly Prince George's County and Dulles Airport can see the smoke from the fire.

According to the Arlington Fire Department, the unfinished building did not yet have firewalls or sprinkler systems installed.

The National Weather Service sent out a tweet, showing that the fire is even visible on doppler radar and is visible via satellite imagery from outer space.

At the time of this writing, no injuries have been reported.
