The 1200 block of Half Street in Southeast Washington DC in the Navy Yard area is being evacuated after a potentially hazardous situation formed during the early afternoon hours on Thursday.
Fire officials say a high-pressure gas line was accidentally struck, creating a possibly dangerous area in the immediate vicinity. After a construction site and restaurant were evacuated, the evacuation zone was increased as a safety precaution.
As a result of the accident, the Metro's Green Line service between the Anacostia and L'Enfant Plaza stations was suspended while repair crews assess and work on the site of the struck gas line.
