Police Use Stun Guns to Extract Florida Man from Walmart Ceiling

A Florida man was arrested after he appeared to be "under the influence of an unknown substance" and crawled up to the ceiling space of a Walmart in New Port Richey and refused to come down. Officers resorted to using stun guns in order to detain him.

According to a report, Pasco Sheriff's deputies were called to the Walmart around 1 PM on Tuesday (November 19) in response to a man who was possibly dealing with mental health issues and/or appeared to be dealing with the effects of some substance. The man crawled his way into the ceiling of the store, creating an unsafe situation for the staff and customers of the Walmart. The man allegedly crawled around in the crawl duct and possibly knocked down a ceiling fan in the process. The store was temporarily evacuated for over an hour due to the man's actions.

Deputies attempted to negotiate with the man verbally but he refused to give himself up. The officers then resorted to using tasers to subdue and detain the man. He was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. At the time of this writing, the man has not yet been identified and has not been charged with anything.

Amanda Hunter of the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said, "This is the type of thing where you never know what you're going to get in a day, our deputies never know what they're going to face."
