Florida Man Arrested After Lighting Fireworks Under Sleeping Child's Bed

A 44-year-old Florida man is in police custody after he allegedly lit firecrackers and threw them under a sleeping child's bed.

Matthew Morrison has been charged with burglary, child cruelty without great harm and possession of a controlled substance after the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office detained him.

Responding officers say that the homeowner of the house where the child was sleeping told them that Morrison lived in a tent near their property. Morrison entered their house without permission and threw a string of lit firecrackers under the 9-year-old girl's bed while she was asleep. After the firecrackers went off, the homeowner responded and chased Morrison out of the house with a stick.

The young girl told police she woke up from the fireworks, causing her to be frightened, cry and shake in fear.

When Morrison was detained, deputies found roughly two grams of methamphetamine on him.
