An inmate at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Boyds, MD reportedly cut off his own penis using a razor blade and was taken to a nearby hospital in hopes of reattaching it.
Workers at the facility made the discovery Saturday afternoon during a shift change. It's unknown how long it had been since the man cut off his penis before the workers found him and called for help. It is believed the man, who was serving time for a second-degree assault and resisting arrest, suffers from mental illness.
It is unclear at the time of this writing if the reattachment attempt was successful or not. The Montgomery County Correction facility houses male and female offenders who are in a pre-trial status or are serving up to 18 months.
