Cigarette, Beer & Wine, Sales Tax Increases Coming to DC October 1st


A new round of tax increases are set to take effect in the District of Columbia on October 1st, affecting the price of cigarettes, beer and wine, and the overall sales tax.

A CFO report (via Sam Ford) says that taxes on cigarettes will increase by $2.00 per pack, beer & wine retail tax increases to 10.25% from 10% and the DC sales tax will increase by 0.25% to 6%.

The increase in tax on packs of cigarettes is said to make the average price of a pack around $11.

According to a separate article, there are also small increases on the taxes for lodgings, rentals and leases of vehicles and trailers and charges for theaters and major entertainment venues.
