A new Smashing Pumpkins single is coming soon, according to an Instagram post by Billy Corgan that shows a behind-the-scenes look at a music video shoot for the song "Solara."
The still shows Corgan in a room with an empty birdcage with the caption, "Coming soon..." that recalls the aesthetic from the band's Adore era.
In March Corgan shared that the Pumpkins, with classic-era members Jimmy Chamberlin and James Iha, recorded 8 songs that are planned to be released as two 4-song EPs with a single out in May. So from all indication that means "Solara" will be the first track coming in a matter of weeks, if not days.
The Smashing Pumpkins reunion tour kicks off in July. It will be the first time Corgan, Iha and Chamberlin have toured together since 2000. Longtime guitar contributor Jeff Schroeder and Jack Bates, son of Joy Division's Peter Hook, will round out the band's touring unit.
Corgan recently joined Lars Ulrich's radio show to give his side of the story on why the band is moving on without original bassist D'Arcy Wretzky despite a reconciliation between the two. In regards to Wretzky being left out of the reunion, Corgan says, "it became obvious that it wasn't the way she wanted it to be, it turned into this other thing that was reminiscent of the past... The thing that keeps you on the rudder is the music and the fact that somehow when the three of us [Corgan, Iha, and Chamberlin] come together, this magical thing happens that's bigger than me... And if that's not your guiding principal, then it's a sh*tty reality show. And we don't want the sh*tty reality show... We'd rather just stay on the music."
The most recent Smashing Pumpkins music released was Monuments to an Elegy in 2014 and you'd have to go back to 2000's Machina for the last time Corgan, Iha and Chamberlin recorded together.
