A photo that leaked on Twitter appears to show the Smashing Pumpkins' reunion lineup at a recent photoshoot. Although rumors have swirled for years that a reunion tour would happen in 2018, the photo seems to be the best evidence so far that it is in fact happening.
Billy Corgan, the band's sole constant member, is seen with original members Jimmy Chamberlin and James Iha, who were also all seen together in an LA recording studio last month. Joining them in the photoshoot is Jeff Schroeder, the rhythm guitarist who has been a member of the band since 2007.
D'Arcy Wretzky, the band's original bass player, was recently ruled out of the reunion.
Corgan caught word of the supposed photo leak and speculation as to who would be on bass duties, and it claims neither he, Iha, or Schroeder would be playing bass. He says, "according to some reports... I am now a bassist. I mean yes, I have played bass on many of your fave songs but I'm not sure I can play bass AND sing at the same time?... though Jeff [Schroeder] doesn't mind plucking at 4 strings if I needed I know he would much prefer the dulcet tones of 6... [James Iha] on the other hand, well, I haven't seen him pick up a bass since Machina."
Recent touring bassists for the band have included Mark Stoermer of The Killers, Jack Bates, son of Joy Division bassist Peter Hooks, and Katie Cole.
