Red Hot Chili Peppers' John Frusciante Makes Rare Public Appearance on Birthday

John Frusciante has been rarely spotted in public since he left the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2009. But a photo of him appeared on Instagram, showing John celebrating his 47th birthday with actor/director Vincent Gallo and Johnny Ramone's widow, Linda.

John has been relatively reclusive since exiting the public spotlight of being in one of the biggest rock bands in the world. He has focused on electronic music and has sporadically released music via various means.

John originally joined the Chili Peppers in 1988 shortly after the death of guitarist Hillel Slovak. The band rose to prominence with 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik, but Frusciante left the band in 1992 after spiraling into a deep depression and becoming hooked on heroine. He would rejoin RHCP in 1998 and record three more platinum-selling albums with the band.
