Keanu Reeves has reportedly donated 70% of the salary he was paid for the movie The Matrix to cancer research, according to a new report.

The now 57-year-old actor was reportedly paid $10M up front to star in the 1999 movie and earned an additional $35M after the movie became a hit at the box office.

The report claims that a total of $31.5M was donated by Reeves to fund research into leukemia, which refers to a number of different kinds cancers affecting blood cells.

Reeves' sister Kim was diagnosed with leukemia in 1991 and was still battling the cancer when Reeves reportedly made the massive donation. Kim finally went into remission in 2001 after dealing with 10 years of treatment.

He has continued to donate to the cause even in the years following Kim's remission and has even created his own cancer fund. Keanu's generosity has been going on for years and years, but until recently no one knew about it as Keanu chose not to put his name on any of his charitable work because he didn't feel the need to draw attention for it.

"I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research. I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does," he said in 2009.
