The family of Brandon Lee, who was the son of legendary actor/martial artist Bruce Lee, has released a comment following the tragic on-set incident on Thursday involving Alec Baldwin. Brandon Lee died in a similar incident when a gun used during filming shot a real bullet instead of a blank on the set of "The Crow" in 1993.
Baldwin fired a prop gun on the set of the movie "Rust" that reportedly fired a real projectile that struck and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.
"Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on “Rust”. No one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set. Period."
Brandon Lee was a rising movie star at the time he was tragically killed. A investigation revealed that a partial bullet fragment was inside of the gun when his co-star Michael Massee fired it. No criminal charges resulted and although negligence was a factor, there was no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing.
Massee, who died in 2016, spoke about the incident in 2005. "What happened to Brandon was a tragic accident. It's something I'm going to live with ... It took me the time it took to be able to not so much put it in perspective but to be able to move on with my life. It's very personal. It's something that I wanna make sure when I work that it's never repeated. Therefore, I'm very conscious of things going awry on set."
It's unknown at the time of the writing if any charges will be filed as a result of the incident involving Baldwin, but it appears the incident was also a terrible accident.
