Nats Pull Off Epic 7-Run Bottom of the 9th Inning to Beat Mets 11-10

The Washington Nationals pulled off an incredible feat Tuesday night. Down by 6 runs in the bottom of the 9th, the Nats scored 7 runs on 7 hits to complete an unlikely comeback, capped off with a walk-off 3-run bomb by catcher Kurt Suzuki.

With Max Scherzer taking the mound for Washington, the Nats took an early lead with a Juan Soto double off Mets starter Jacob deGrom.

Former Nats catcher Wilson Ramos delivered an RBI double in the top of the 4th to tie the game at 1 followed by a Brandon Nimmo sac fly and a Joe Panik home run to give the Nats a 4-1 lead.

The Nats added a run in the 6th but the Mets responded with a solo HR from Jeff McNeil.

Down 5-2 in the bottom of the 8th, Juan Soto launched a 2-run dinger to pull the Nats back within one.

But in the top of the 9th, the Nimmo hit a solo shot. Then, Tre Turner made a critical mistake on a ground ball, throwing to first for an easy out instead of starting a double play that would have ended the inning with the Nats down 6-4. The Mets took advantage of the mistake, with McNeil lining one to left field for two runs and then Pete Alonso put a Daniel Hudson fastball into the center field seats to put the Mets up 10-4.

But the Nats came back in the bottom of the 9th.

With one out, Turner drilled a line drive double to the right field wall to score Victor Robles all the way from first base.

With runners on 1st and 3rd with one out, Anthony Rendon punched a single to make it a 10-6 game.

The Mets brought in their closer Edwin Diaz to face pinch hitter Ryan Zimmerman with the bases loaded. Zimmerman proceeded to rip a line drive over the diving glove of the Mets' right fielder to score two and make it a 10-8 game with runners on 2nd and 3rd.

The next batter, Suzuki, put an end to the game after that. With a 3-2 count, Suzuki blasted a 100mph fastball from Diaz about 12 rows deep in left field.

Ain't baseball great?
