PORT HUENEME, Calif.-A small dog named Sophie suffered a collapsed lung and displaced heart when a homeless man snuck up behind her and kicked her 15 feet into the air at a California beach.
Dylan McTaggart, 25, was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of fighting in public, assaulting a lifeguard and felony animal cruelty. He was held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Apparently this dude has terrorized people on this beach many times and is also a registered sex offender. So it sounds like he has some pretty serious mental issues that need to be treated. But it's sad that there is so little help for these people who need it the most before someone gets their dog kicked 15 feet into the air.
The local police department says as a result of this incident and an overall increase in dangerous activity at the beach, an officer will be posted in the area.
McTaggart was arrested and charged with fighting in public, assault on a lifeguard and felony animal cruelty.
The dog was taken to a vet and is now back home with her owner.
