The Washington Capitals and their fans celebrated the club’s first NHL championship with a parade down Constitution Avenue on Tuesday, June 12. The festivities brought tens of thousands of fans into the city who came to celebrate Washington’s first major professional sports title in 26 years.
Some fans showed up several hours before the 11 a.m. parade start to stake out their spot along the parade route.
As of noon Tuesday, Metro said over 351,000 people have used Metrorail so far.
For those fans who were having a hard time getting time off work for the parade, the Washington Capitals offered them a doctor’s note.

Caps players, marching bands and first responders paraded through the streets as fans cheered, "Raise the Cup!" and "Ovi! Ovi! Ovi!"

The final bus carried Alex Ovechkin, Brooks Orpik, Nicklas Backstrom, Ted Leonsis and the Stanley Cup. Ovechkin hoisted the Cup over his head.
After the parade, fans flocked to the stage on the National Mall. Caps players spoke one by one, linked arms on stage and sang a few lines from "We Are the Champions."
