A fundraiser at a Lee County high school sold raffle tickets for an AR-15 rifle has sparked controversy.
Seniors at Lee High School sold $10 raffle tickets for an AR-15 rifle from Liberty Sport & Pawn in Pennington Gap. Money raised went toward the senior class trip, according to the Lee High School SGA Facebook page.
The grand prize was later changed to a gift certificate to the store, “in light of the recent school shootings,” according to a statement from Superintendent Brian Austin.
