Whoever said “Television rots the brain,” is stupid. Professors from University of California, Irvine, know what’s going on. Beginning October 14, they are offering a class based on AMC’s hit show, “The Walking Dead." October 14 was chosen as the start date because it is the day after the season 4 premiere. Students need to watch the show before coming to class, because class material is based on the plot.
It seems a little unnecessary to have a class about surviving a zombie apocalypse. But apparently the course will cover topics about how humans handle catastrophe, public health and nutrition.
Unfortunately, the course is not for credit. Right now, it’s just an experiment for AMC to keep viewers and for UC Irvine to see how pop culture and academics mix. Hopefully, it does well and students can just watch TV for homework.
