Trent Reznor isn't a guy who is afraid to speak his mind, especially when the subject of modern music comes up in an interview. He was talking to The Daily Record and had a lot to say on the topic of the current generation of bands.
Nine Inch Nails has been out doing festival dates right now and Trent is watching what's happening with the music.
"When you see a lot more excitement generated from the dance tent, I do think a staleness has permeated rock music." "
A pretty conservative nature has crept into music and I don't mean sonically."
" I get a sense that a lot of bands today are designing themselves to get a good review in the hip blogs and that is probably the safest and most cowardly thing you can do as an artist."
"If you have something to say, then say it. Express yourself and break the rules."
I've always respected Trent for his music and his willingness to talk about what's going on, not just hide behind canned answers to questions. I do wish he would have said which bands he was thinking about with these statements.
