June 5th is here and we have much to talk about On This Day in Music! Should we start with our friends U2? I think we should.

It was June 5th, 1983, that U2 played at Red Rocks Ampitheatre in Colorado. That concert was one of the biggest in their career up to that point and they had the video cameras rolling. The performance was put out later as U2 Live At Red Rocks: Under a Blood Red Sky. Let's check out "Surrender" from that amazing set!

Don't judge the hair of Bono by the way. Focus only on the music please!

On we go to June 5th, 2002 with the passing of Dee Dee Ramone. He was found dead of a heroine overdose in his Hollywood apartment. Not only did Dee Dee play the bass for The Ramones but he was also the man who wrote many of their biggest songs, including "Rockaway Beach". In 1977 they played it at CBGB in NYC (one of many times that year)!

I hope you're in a better place now Dee Dee. Rest in punk rock peace.

Moving to a year later, June 5th, 2003, where a band made a choice. Slash, Matt Sorum and Duff McKagan had played a tribute show in Vegas and found that the old Guns n Roses chemistry was still there so why not do something new! They decided on this day that Scott Weiland would be their lead singer. That band, of course, would eventually become Velvet Revolver.

At Live 8 in 2005 in London, they played "Fall To Pieces"!

We're not done until we talk June 5th birthdays and our first was June 5th, 1956 with Richard Butler. He is the leader of The Psychadelic Furs and after a long hiatus they are going strong once again. "Pretty in Pink" from Top of the Pops!

We have bass birthdays too! 311's man on the low end is Aaron Wills, aka P-Nut, and he's turning the big 4-0 today! Happy 40th P-Nut! They're rocking out on "Come Original" at 311 Day 2006 in Memphis!

And who is the other man on the bass that was born on June 5th? Mr. Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, who came to us today in 1979! He's outspoken, he's got the rock star attitude and he helped do "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs" last year on the MTV World Stage in Monterrey!

Have an awesome June 5th comrade!
