We've had a lot of great stories so far in July and they'll continue On This Day in Music for the 17th!

Our first tale takes place a year ago, on July 17th, 2013. It was today that Bono was honored in France with their highest cultural award. His contributions to music and all of his work to help the world were recognized and that's why he was given the Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters by Aurelie Filippetti, the French Culture Minister.

We should watch U2 in France, it's fitting! "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" is from Paris in 1987!

Next we have a marriage which came to an end on July 17th, 2006. The  marriage between Dave Navarro and Carmen Electra was announced as over today after they spent three beautiful years together. Whoever would have guessed it wouldn't have lasted?

"Stop" from Jane's Addiction is just what we need. From New York City in 2011, here we go!!!!

An album release is our next story, and a pretty good one at that! On July 17th, 1997, Blink 182 gave us Dude Ranch! It went up to #67 on the Billboard 200, not too bad for their second record. Watch Mark, Tom and Travis doing "Dammit" in 2000 at the Big Day Out Festival in Australia!

Birthdays? Yes of course there are birthdays! July 17th, 1949 is our first because that's the birthday of Black Sabbath's bass player Geezer Butler! Watch them doing "Paranoid" in England in 2012!

Yeah, they still got it.

Another birthday on July 17th is the former guitarist for The Mars Volta, Paul Hinojos! Paul was born today in 1975 and was in the band for a few years. During his time, he got to be with them to play "Wax Simulacra" in 2008 on Letterman!

Our last birthday was a few years after Paul's. This one happened on July 17th, 1977, and it was M.I.A. who was welcomed to the planet! Watch her doing "Paper Planes" at Lollapalooza in 2007!

There you have it! If there's more to be said about July 17th, it hasn't happened yet.
