On This Day in Music...July 16th

Posted July 16th, 2014 @ 12:07am

July 16th is upon us and we are here to tell you about what went down On This Day In Music! Let's do this!!!!

First up we have the shortest White Stripes show ever happening on July 16th, 2007. Jack and Meg came out on George Street, St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, and he played a single C# on his guitar while Meg did a cymbal crash and a kick on her bass drum. Jack then told everyone that he was proud that the band officially played in every Canadian province and territory.

Here! Watch the full performance!

Jack White, you are an odd bird. The Stripes did play a full show later that night at St. John's.

The next stop we're hitting is July 16th, 2002, when Busted Stuff was released by the Dave Matthews Band! (I can't believe it's been 12 years already!) No big deal for the guys, just another album that went #1 for them. Also this was the first record they did without any guest musicians on it.

Let's watch "Grey Street" from the 2002 tour!

Pretty solid song to open the show with!

Next we're talking about a lawsuit that was settled on July 16th, 1996. Today the singer for The Cranberries, Dolores O'Riordan, was given over $15,000 in damages from The Daily Star. The paper printed a story claiming that she was on stage performing without underwear on! They also had to pay her legal costs in the libel case. Dolores gave all the money to the War Child charity.

Watch them playing "Linger" from Woodstock '94 (and I'm not even asking about the underwear situation).

There are birthdays to talk about today!

July 16th, 1971 is our first one with Ed Kowalczyk! The former singer of Live is having his happy happy today, though I doubt he's getting phone calls from the guys he used to call his bandmates.

Either way, they were always great together. For example, when they played "Lakini's Juice" on SNL in 1997!

We have another birthday for July 16th is from 1952. Today we have Stuart Copeland's birthday, your drummer from The Police! This is "Synchronicity II" from Atlanta in 1983!

There are a lot of feathered haircuts there! Happy July 16th!
