On This Day in Music...April 24th

April 24th, on the topic of birthdays, is all about the drummers! We'll start in 1957 with Boris Williams, who was the drummer for The Cure during their biggest time, 1984-1994. He was a part of Disintegration, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Wish, all the big records of the band's heyday. This is from the Wish Tour, shot in 1992 at the Palace in Detroit.

Another man on the kit that we got on April 24th is Shannon Larkin. He plays drums for Godsmack and Ugly Kid Joe, plus he also helped out Stone Sour and once with Black Sabbath for an evening! Let's go to 1992 and watch, live from MTV's Spring Break broadcasts in Daytona Beach, FL, as Ugly Kid Joe does a few songs!

I remember watching that live as it happened! Hello Tia Carrere, you were awesome in Wayne's World!

Speaking of television, today in 2003 The White Stripes started their four night residency as the musical guest on Late Night With Conan O'Brien! They kicked the run off by doing "Jolene", a Dolly Parton cover!

And in one of the worst blunders in record company history, on April 24th, 1968, The Beatles' Apple Records decided to take a pass on signing an up and coming singer. Not a good move because that man's name is David Bowie.

Ooops.
