On This Day in Music...April 22nd

Happy Earth Day! Make sure you do your part to help our planet out in some way today. It's not just about that today, because things happened on April 22nd in the music world!

Bob Marley made his first public appearance today in Jamaica after being out of the limelight there for over a year and a half. He had been living in London after the assassination attempt on his life and this night was a major statement, showing the people of Jamaica that the political unrest there needed to end and peace was needed.

Watch Bob Marley and The Wailers at the One Love Peace show on April 22nd, 1978 performing "Jammin'", not just for the crowd but for the political world to see that people can come together in the worst times.

We had a few birthday today as well. First, in 1974 Shavo Odadjian was born. He is the bassist for System of A Down. One of their big shows when they came back was at Rock in Rio in 2011. Enjoy the full set!

Daniel Johns was also born today in 1979. We know him from Silverchair and a big moment for the group was playing the MTV Video Music Awards in 1995.

One other thing about today to tell you. There was talk for a long time that today in 1991 the Dave Matthews Band did their first concert at the Charlottesville, VA Earth Day Show. That was one of their first, but the band took the stage for performance number one in March of 1991 at Trax Nightclub for a Middle East Children's Alliance benefit concert. Share that tidbit with your friends!
